This song was recorded in Hawaii, on a tropical flower farm on the island of Maui, in a run-down garage where we used to play ping pong, drink beer and listen to music on weekends. It features Lucy Miller, a volunteer working on this farm, a funny, peroxyde blonde woman who writes poems on occasion.
This song was originally not intentionally recorded because it was part of Lucy’s vocal warmup before we recorded some other song we originally planned to record (Porcelain Ship).
When revisiting recordings from the past I stumbled upon this recording and decided to shape it into something completely new, changing the pitch and tempo of the vocal, as well as adding other effects, and adding a completely new background music (the original was recorded without any tempo and music. This is akin to Frank Zappa’s Xenachrony technique of incorporating some existing recording into a different context. The instruments were partly recorded in a previous house in Zabrze, then in Warsaw, and then mixed in Warsaw.
lyrics
Look at me
Why don't you look at me
The way you look
at all the other girls you see
All I am, all that I'll ever be
Blue as the nights
I wish we spent together
What a lovely time, together
Blue as that glimpse of life
I'm your friend
I guess I'll always be
But I'm in love with you endlessly
All the time, all of the time I've lost
Trying to make you come to me
At any cost
Blue as the nights
I wish we spent together
What a lovely time together
Blue as that glimpse of life
Blue as the nights
I wish we spent together
What a lovely time together
Blue as that glimpse of life
I'm your friend
I guess I'll always be
When I almost think you mine
